How to Keep Skin Healthy Year Round

One of the best ways to keep your skin healthy is with a good skin care system, such as SOUTHWEST SUNSHINE; however, there are some additional things you can do to keep your skin from looking pasty and dry during the cooler months.

Use a humidifier, which will add moisture to the air while keeping your skin hydrated. If you spend the majority of your time at the office, keep one by your desk, and invest in another to keep in the room that you spend the most time in at home.

Once the weather starts to cool down it is tempting to turn up the heat. However, central heating will make the air drier. Set your thermostat between 68 and 72 degrees to keep your skin looking healthy.

Skip the hot showers, as hot water will dry out your skin and strip the natural oils. Instead of a hot shower, take a 10-minute lukewarm bath or shower. Also avoid washing your hands with hot water as well as it can cause dry, red, and scaly skin.

Use a natural facial cleanser such as SOUTHWEST SUNSHINE as the wrong soap or skin cleanser will make your dry skin worse. Bar soaps that contain fragrances are especially harmful. Instead, use an all-natural facial cleanser that will help moisturize your skin.

Use sunscreen, even during the cooler months, as it is imperative that you protect your skin from the harmful UV rays that are still around, even on a cold and cloudy day. Before you leave the house, apply a good moisturizer such as the all-natural facial moisturizer from SOUTHWEST SUNSHINE and then apply sunscreen.

Wear clothing that doesn’t aggravate your dry skin. If you are wearing wool, wear an undershirt or t-shirt as it can cause your dry skin to become itchy and irritated. Wear fabrics that are soft and breathe underneath your sweaters. Also, wear mittens or gloves when the weather starts to cool down, even in the fall.

Stay hydrated and drink at least eight glasses of water each day. If you aren’t eating enough omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids, add flaxseed or fish oil supplements to your diet. Eating the right foods will also help moisturize your skin from the inside.
