Age Old Traditions Still Hold True

Moisturizer Lotions have been with us for centuries, but it was not until the Marchant family settled in the Big Horn Basin at the turn of the century and followed the old Native American traditions, that the healing properties of Arnica were discovered and used as a healing gel to treat bruises, wound, cuts, and burns and contesting that age old traditions still hold true today.

When the Marchant family moved to Arizona in 1972, Bret’s father quickly discovered that the herbal gel that his family had used for almost 100 years also worked on the dry and itchy skin that was prevalent in Arizona. After working with an organic chemist, Bret’s father formulated a blend of Arnica, Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Rosemary, Watercress, and Saponins, which is used to treat most skin irritations.

Further research found that the gel could be used as a base for other products to produce an entire herbal skin care system. Although these products were sold under different names across the country in the 1970’s, Bret decided to cut out the middleman, and develop his own line of herbal creams and skin care lotions, and in 1980 created Southwest Sunshine. Bret knew that if he eliminated some of the overhead, he could sell his products at a price that everyone could afford. Instead of spending thousands of dollars on television and radio commercials, Brett hit the road and started demonstrating his products at festivals, fairs, women’s expo’s, and outdoor events. Huge crowds would gather wherever the products were demonstrated and mail orders started pouring in.

The Southwest Sunshine brand continues to grow and is available all over the United States and Canada. These healthy skin care products do not contain water, mineral oil, lanolin, or animal oils. The Herbal Gel, which is the base for the entire line, penetrates and feeds the skin and can be used by people with allergies and sensitive skin.
